About the event

The New Liquidity (Anders Ehlin & Selma Boskailo) is presenting their immersive binaural site-specific soundwalk as a part of their series De-territorialized Listenings.

By rethinking local knowledge and environment, they propose a transformation of familiar soundscapes, addressing deterritorialization in the context of cultural globalisation and distancing from the locality developed through mediatization, migration and commodification of life under the global capital.

Through adaptive spatial audio, which is reactive to the participants body movements and location, they seek to challenge the hierarchies of our sensorial and imaginative structures. A custom built AR app for mobile phones utilizes the phone's gyro and accelerometer data to track a walker’s local positions and movements, as well as GPS signals to trigger geolocated sound events in the larger geographical realm.

Continuing the research intentions of betweenEbbandFlow: interstitial spaces, The New Liquidity investigates the harbour as a metaphorical space of transition and transcorporeality within a hydrofeminist and posthumanist discourse. As their site they have chosen the Kattwykbrücke bridge, next to the highly politicized Moorburg coal power plant: both strong symbols of the eviction and transformation of the entire Moorburg and Altenwerder areas into industrial harbour areas, housing container terminals and sites for harbour basins and industrial plants.

The bridge becomes a non-place for a displaced community and proof of inequities ascribed to late capitalism. As we go along the route, The New Liquidity invites us to question the spaces we encounter, integrating landscape and subjectivity. What can re-engagement with this non-place tell us about our sense of place and what kind of impact does it have on our collective memory?

3 - 4 pm | artist talk: Introduction + Q&A at Kulturcafé  Wasserturm und Feuerteufel

from 4:30 pm | binaural soundwalk across Moorburg (about 20 min)
