About the event

9pm : readings selection from Mobile Soils by Gabriel N. Gee

An invitation to the Elbe at low tide  / Landzunge am Billhafen, Hamburg

Tonight you’ll be taken on a journey along the bottom of the Elbe River.   Where our eye does not immediately reach beyond the surface of the water, there is an entire world unknown to us. At the Landzunge in Hamburg, four times a day high and low tides alternate dramatically. Where does the low tide go, after leaving out of our sight? After half an hour of watching the bottom of the river, the basin refills itself.    In the unique location of Landzunge, as a place to be surrounded by the ebb, where the water retreats leaving room for introspection, Gabriel N.Gee offers a selection of readings from the recently published ‘Mobile Soils’ (Teti Press, 2022).

This collection of essays reflects on the mobile ground beneath our feet, questioning the soil as both material and narrative in our interconnected territories. Texts by artists, curators, historians, engineers, environmental scientists, architects, gardeners and poets peer into the bright and dark worlds of the underground, look at memories, molecules and resilience on the ground, industry, migration and spectral presences on the overground.

The reading session of tonight activates the site-specific interventions by artists Maud van den Beuken and Beatrice Alvestad Lopez on view at Landzunge until 3.07.
